Opening Doors Cumbria, specialises in working with people in the community who suffer from severe and enduring mental heath problems and other disadvantaged groups by promoting Social Inclusion through Learning, Volunteering, Lifestyle choices & Work opportunities.
Opening Doors is a part of Croftlands Trust, who were formed over 20 years ago as an independent charity, with the help of the Social and Health services. Its aim was to support people who have Mental Health problems, to be able to live in the community.
The main focus of Opening Doors Cumbria is the Community Bridge Building Service and the Social Firm.
The Community Bridge Building services are based at our offices in
The Social Firm is based in Lancaster Street and provides workshops for work based training, sustainable employment and support services serving the local community who access the facilities. Activities are centred on the key production areas of Garden furniture, Bespoke wood products, Furniture restoration and Desk Top publishing. All these products and services are provided by paid/volunteer personnel as defined by a sustainable profitable business plan. Support is provided by the Social Firm Community Bridge Builder to assist the workforce in being Work Ready, having the skills for volunteer/work roles.
The Shine Project, Support and Help in a Non threatening Environment is based at Manchester Street. The project uses the medium of art and craft as a base on which to develop an individuals self esteem, self confidence, personal awareness, self confidence and independence while working in a safe environment. Using person centred planning, individuals are encouraged to discover their own hopes, dreams and aspirations, participating in new learning opportunities that promote lifelong learning, develop friendship networks by accessing the wider community reducing social isolation.
