Opening Doors Cumbria specialises in working with people in the community who suffer from severe and enduring mental heath problems and other disadvantaged groups by promoting Social Inclusion through Learning, Volunteering, Lifestyle choices & Work opportunities.
Opening Doors is a part of Croftlands Trust, who were formed over 26 years ago as an independent charity, with the help of the Social and Health services. Its aim was to support people who have Mental Health problems, to be able to live in the community.
The main focus of the social enterprise is to provide work/volunteer opportunities for disadvantaged groups in the community.
The Social Enterprise is based in Lancaster Street and provides workshops for work based training, sustainable employment and support services serving the local community who access the facilities. Activities are centered on the key production areas of Garden furniture, Bespoke wood products, Furniture restoration and Desk Top Publishing and Printing. All these products and services are provided by paid/volunteer personnel as defined by a sustainable profitable business plan. Support is provided by the Social Enterprise Bridge Builder to assist the workforce in being Work Ready, having the skills for volunteer/work roles.
